Indian Wedding Photographer

Melbourne & Mornington Peninsula

Since 2004, I’ve been an Indian wedding photographer, working with couples with backgrounds from a variety of cultures and faiths in all kinds of interesting locations. My experience ranges across ceremonies rooted in sound tradition and values to the most unusual and quirky.

Indian culture is one of the most unique and celebrated in the world, whether you are Sikh, Muslim or Hindu, your wedding is a festival of love and commitment unlike many others in the world.

What remains true to Indian wedding ceremonies across all faiths are the vibrant colours and dynamic jubilations experienced by the couple and their families which

Sikh Wedding Photography

A traditional Sikh wedding is a huge undertaking for any couple, their families, and their guests, it’s important for a Sikh wedding photographer to understand and respect all that goes into the making of this special celebration.

Starting with the engagement ceremony, the Kurmai, through to the vibrant wedding reception, the whole event can often run over a blissful two to three days.

The whole ceremony is one that is beautiful to photograph, and the traditions are best told in a narrative style. From the groom being presented with an ornate ceremonial sword and arriving on decorated horseback for the meeting of the families and the bride’s appearance. Capturing those important moments involving family in the Gurdwara is key to curating the reportage of your day.

Capturing the father of the bride passing the scarf to his daughter is a tender, seminal moment of him passing his care to her new husband, and the family helping the bride to complete her walks around the Guru Granth Sahib to show their support for her joining a new family.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I use methods to capture the heart of the action whilst practically going unnoticed during the day. I capture the vibrant colours emanating from the festive bridal wear, the energy propelling the charismatic dancing, and the heartfelt romance blossoming between the happy couple.

Hindu Wedding Photography

I have had the great honour of being a Hindu wedding photographer for many years and across a variety of locations. Family, as with all Indian weddings, are at the heart of the ceremonial activities. From the choosing of the venue by the bride’s family, to the many poignant blessing in the service, to the dazzling reception dinner and party.

However, the Saat Phere – the seven steps around the fire – must be the most important part of any Hindu ceremony. The couple forge their future together praying for food, strength, prosperity, health, family, progeny, each other, and their lives together.

At the end of the traditional ceremony, it is custom for the bride and groom to play games often pranking and challenging each other, filling a room with eruptions of laughter and memories.

Muslim Wedding Photography

Muslim weddings vary greatly due to the rich variation of traditions and cultures, I have years of experience as a Muslim wedding photographer and am always amazed by the sheer elegance of the occasion, whether it is the exquisite traditional clothing and jewellery or the variety of exciting foods at the banquet.

The cultural practices, such as the Savaqah, create amazing moments to capture. The showering of coins onto the bride provides a glittering moment framed by your family and guests, authentically creating the photographic story throughout the day.

And the locations in which a Muslim ceremony can take place can be both representative of the couple’s heritage and intimately connected. Because Islam has no official clergy, Muslim couples are free to choose who officiates their wedding. If done by a Qazi, you have the beauty of a Mosque as the backdrop. Alternatively, if you are having your ceremony officiated by a friend or relative, there are endless unique locations to capture your Nikah.

Indian Reportage (aka Documentary) Wedding Photography

My style of wedding photography, Indian or otherwise, is often referred to as ‘reportage’ or ‘documentary wedding photography’. This style is perfect for Muslim, Hindu, or Sikh wedding photography because there is just so much going on from lavish textures and fabrics to high energy events and dramatic symbolism. And, because it’s such a family-orientated event, there is a real sense of inclusion and community, meaning buckets full of character - and of course, lot’s of dancing!

I love photographing the intricate cultural moments during any Asian wedding, especially in my reportage wedding photography style. An experienced, natural style Indian wedding photographer should be in the heart of the action and yet go unnoticed.

I photograph moments as they happen, meaning that when you look back at your wedding album you will be transported back to that auspicious moment, with authenticity, filled with all of that emotion you were feeling.

I invite you to take a look through the wedding portfolio of previously shot Indian weddings to appreciate the honesty and authenticity you can expect from your own collection.
